We ran out of pitching before they ran out of hitting. In the ongoing drama that is JV baseball, yesterday's game had a first, at least in my memory. The scorebook includes a K 2-1 notation for the second out of the 2nd inning. Dropped third strikes in JV baseball are routine. Sometimes the catcher tags the batter out. Sometimes the catcher makes a good throw to first base to get the out (K 2-3). Sometimes the catcher makes a bad throw to first and the batter is safe (K E-2). Never before have I witnessed the catcher (Zach Porges) make a throw to the pitcher (Tom West) halfway down the first base line to tag out the batter, while holding the runner on third base at the same time. Quite a play, but not enough to get us the win.
