George School Invite

The GFS Boys’ cross country team continued its near perfect season at the George School Invite on Saturday, this time with some new faces. In the varsity competition, the Tigers won the overall title with 93 points besting rivals Westtown (2nd, 102), Penn Charter (5th, 126), George School (7th, 156) and Germantown Academy (10th, 249). Leading the way for GFS was freshman Evan Caldwell, who placed 10th overall in 18:30. Cameron Mactavish (15th, 18:38), Ben Finkel (20th, 19:02), Charlie Beiser (21st, 19:08) and Sam Ebert (27th, 19:23) rounded out the scoring for GFS.

In the JV race, GFS swept the top 5 places and put 7 harriers in the top 8 to secure a dominant victory. The 15 point perfect score bettered Friends League rivals Westtown and George School who had 65 and 81 points respectively. Freshman Zhewen Zhang captured the victory in 19:44, ahead of teammate Drew Daniels who placed 2nd in 19:52. Max Anderson (20:17), Will Marshall (20:26), and David Waterman (20:32) closed out the scoring for GFS placing 3rd, 4th and 5th. Not to be outdone, Ian Longshore capped the day with a 2 minute and 52 second personal record finishing 34th in 24:32.

The Tigers have a dual meet versus Friends Select and Westtown on Tuesday, October 9th at Belmont Plateau. Also, Saturday, October 13th the Tigers travel to the Bronx, NY to compete in the 35th annual Manhattan Invite.
