April 23, 2008

On Wednesday afternoon, the Tigers of GFS made it 3 wins in a row as they defeated the visiting Churchmen of Episcopal Academy by a score of 17-2. The Tigers move to 9-4 on the season with the victory. The win helped to avenge two losses to EA last season, once during the regular season and the other in the 1st round of the PA Independent School Championship Tournament.

The Tiger offense continued its impressive season by scoring double digits runs for the 9th time this season. Leading the offensive charge for the Tigers were Sr. Noah Goodman and Soph. Jay Query. Goodman was 3-4 on the day with an RBI and 4 runs scored. Query was 2-3 with 4 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Sr. Mike Barsotti chipped in with a 2-2 day that included a 2 RBI triple in the 4th inning. Sr. David Marvin and Jr. Rasheed Stewart also contributed with RBI doubles.

After the Tigers scored a run in the 1st inning, EA answered back in the top half of the 2nd to even the game at 1-1. However, the GFS bats responded by scoring 8 runs in the 2nd to take a commanding 9-1 lead and added to their advantage with 4 runs in the 3rd and 4 more in the 4th.

Soph. Jesse Biddle did his part on the mound by pitching 5 strong innings. He allowed only 2 hits while striking out 7 and walking 2.

The Tigers are back in action this upcoming Friday when they hit the road to take on Friends League opponent Abington Friends. Game time is slated for 3:45 p.m.
