Long Ball Leads Tigers over MFS
May 2, 2008

On Friday afternoon, the GFS Tigers used the "long ball" to defeat Moorestown Friends by a score of 7-1. The win improves the Tigers to 12-4 overall and 9-0 in the Friends League.

Sr. Nico Barbarese led the charge by belting two home runs on the day. His first home run came on the very first at bat of the game when he delivered a pitch over the right field fence to give the Tigers a quick 1-0 lead.  The Tigers would answer again in their half of the 2nd inning when Jr. Rasheed Stewart lead off with a base hit, followed by a walk to Soph. Josh Goldenberg, and Soph. Justin Berg getting hit by a pitch to load the bases. Up stepped Barbarese who deposited another shot over the fence for the grand slam giving the Tigers a commanding 5-0 lead. GFS would push across a run in the 3rd and one more in the 5th before MFS would plate their lone run in the bottom of the 6th.

For the day, Barbarese was 2-3 with 5 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Goldenberg also chipped in by reaching base in all 4 of his plate appearances with 2 singles and 2 walks.

On the mound, Sr. Mike Barsotti improved to 5-0 with another strong performance by pitching a complete game 1 hitter. He struck out 12 batters and walked only 2.

The Tigers are back at it this Tuesday when they host Friends' Central at Gratwick Field. Game time is slated for 3:45.
