On Wednesday at GFS, the Boys Varsity Soccer Team shut out Westtown in the FSL semi-finals 4-0!
The #2 seeded Tigers will now travel to Shipley on Friday (10/31) to take on the top seeded Gators. Shipley narrowly defeated the George School on Wednesday afternoon, as a 0-0 tie stood through 80 minutes of regulation, 20 minutes of overtime, and 10 minutes of sudden victory soccer. The game went to penalty kicks and came down to the final George School shooter. Trailing 4-3 on kicks, George needed one more goal to extend the game, but the Shipley goalie came up with the save and secured the victory for the Gators.
The GFS game did not have the same type of dramatic ending, but was no less exciting, as the Tigers led from start to finish, scoring only minutes into the first half, taking a 3-0 lead into half-time, and cruising to the victory with one more goal in the second half. Senior Caleb Mactavish scored the first goal of the game, with juniors Manolo Sanchez (2 goals) and Jason Symonette (1 goal) rounding out the scoring.
The GFS boys will travel to Shipley on Friday for a 2:30pm start for the FSL championship game. This will be the third year in a row the Tigers will take on the Gators in the final game of the year, with the home team winning each of the last two titles (Shipley won at home in 2006, while GFS won at home in 2007). Shipley was the only FSL opponent to beat GFS this year.
The weather looks great for Friday and the Tigers are looking to sweeten-up Halloween with a win at Shipley!
GO TIGERS!!!
