| Tigers First to Win Three in a Row!
They say the third time is the charm, and for the Tigers, Custer Cook was the snake charmer. In a wonderfully mature and spectacularly timely outing, Custer pitched the Tigers to their third FSL Championship in a row, giving up only four hits and holding Shipley scoreless for the 3-0 victory.
The game was truly a championship and hard fought by both teams. Shipely's ace, a lefty, with a good fastball and a curve he can throw for strikes, had held the Tigers in their first outing to just three hits, and in the top of the first it looked like it could be more of the same as he put the Tigers down in order. Custer responded with two quick outs, a single and then the second strikeout of the inning to retire Shipley. In the second Michael Barsotti had an at bat that set the tone for the game. He battled the Shipley ace, fouling off several pitches, until he found a pitch he could hit, and put the ball up the middle for a single.
The game got even more exciting in the third with the teams exchanging outs at home. In the top of the inning, Brian Pepe-Mooney walked and stole a base. The throw to second sailed over the second basemen's head into the outfield. Brian advanced to third and when the throw there was errant he went home. The ball took a baseball bounce off the fence, right back into the defenders hands, who then made a perfect throw to nail Brian at home. In similar fashion, Shipley's lead off hitter earned a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He was sacrificed to third with a bunt. After being able to take a walking lead he raced home on a Custer pitch. Nate Gemberling-Johnson reacted cooly and put on a tag that prevented the runner from ever reaching the plate. The score remained 0-0.
The Tigers finally tallied on a single to right by Marc Schwartz, followed by a single just inside the third base bag from Marek Loder. Nate hit a towering fly ball to right which allowed both Marc and Marek to tag and advance on the play. Michael then proceeded to drive in the run on a ball to short that also advanced Marek to third. Marek then scored on a wonderfully aggressive play on a wild pitch the bounced up the third base side a bit making the score 2-0.
While Custer continued to hold the Shipley bats at bay, the Tigers were looking to expand their lead. In textbook baseball manner, Rasheed Steward singled to left, was sacrificed to second by Noah Goodman, and scored on Marc's second single on the day.
The Tigers continued to threaten and in spite of back to back singles by Michael and Sam Biddle in the sixth and a lead off double by Rasheed Stewart in the seventh, they were unable to add to their lead. Three runs proved enough as Custer started the bottom of the seventh and Sam came in the finish the game held Shipley to a strikeout and ground balls back to the mound and to second to end the game.
It took every member of the team to win this one. It was a close hard fought game against a very good opponent. The positive, continuous effort from every member of the team was required and was there throughout. As a result the Tigers are the first baseball team in FSL history to win three titles in a row. Well done guys. You were terrific!
Congratulations Champions!

Thank you
The list of people to thank for this wonderful year is a long one. It includes the Transportation, Maintenance, and Safety and Security Departments, the Communication Office, the students and faculty, the parents and families of our players, and the loyal fans (you know who you are). Special thanks also goes to Harry Gratwick, Carl Tannenbaum, Eli Glick, Joe Peacock, Tom Myran, Pam Lutz, Bobbie Konover, Katie Berstrom and the entire community. Thank you for supporting us and making this magical season just a bit more special.
I would also like to thank the entire Baseball Coaching Staff for all of the hard work, dedication, care, and thought they put into the program. They made the year fun and productive for the players.
Winning a championship is fun, winning three in a row is very special, being able to share it with people that care about the team is really a gift.
