This past Friday, upper school girls cross country attended the Paul Short Invitational, a big meet held at Lehigh's well-known, fast course in scenic Bethlehem. The meet featured a full day of college and high school races. The varsity girls ended up 13th out of 39 scoring teams in their division; there were 313 individual finishers in the varsity race, and 217 in the JV race.
Jasia Kaulbach led the varsity, with an impressive 7th place finish after leading through the first mile. She ran 19:25 over 5k, her second fastest time ever. She was followed by Brooke Palus in 25th place, who set a personal best of 20:15. Freshman Isabelle Goldstein was again third for the Tigers, running a PR of 21:38. Fellow freshman Lucy Guida had a strong kick at the end of the race to finish in 22:07 - over a minute and a half faster than she had ever run before. Senior Maddy Doggett showed real leadership during the race, and was right behind with another big PR of 22:08, also over a minute faster than her previous best. Next up was junior Jess Love, in 22:26, also a PR. Addison Hoffman followed with another PR of 22:29. That pack of runners did a great job of working together and moving up throughout the race. Ally Daniels rounded out the varsity group with a 23:18, her second best time ever. In the JV race, Kristen Kelly had a strong race, finishing in 23:27, and looking strong at the end. Tess Doggett had a real breakthrough, dropping almost a minute from her previous best to run 23:54. Emme Friedberg had yet another in a continuing series of PRs for her, running 26:31.
