GFS 0, Westtown 3
A very difficult boys soccer game at Westtown left the Tigers licking their wounds and gearing up for a rally to save their playoff chances.
Coach Matt Zipin noted, "We played well in stretches, and we hit posts (and the goalie) several times in the first half, when we were playing with enthusiasm." However, as the game wore on, GFS lost a player to injury, reducing its number to 13, and the Tigers struggled to move the ball up the field. Many players played the entire 80 minutes, and the field was huge, so fatigue was certainly a factor as the game went on.
Westtown scored about 30 minutes into the game on a chip shot that went over GFS goalie Jay Query's hands. "We were disappointed, but we played hard until we gave up a second goal about 25 minutes into the second half," said Zipin. The final score left Westtown ahead 3-0.
Zipin stated, "Our record is now 6-4-1, 3-2-1 in the Friends League. Our immediate goal is to make the playoffs. We have 2 league games left, Friends Central and George, and we need good outcomes in these to get us to the playoffs. This Saturday - Fun Day - we play Upper Moreland at home. Let's see what kind of character we have."
