GFS 5, ANC 0
GFS Girls Varsity tennis walked away victorious today after our match against ANC.
Number 1 Doubles team Lauren Shinn (9) and Daisy Daeschler (12) as well as the second doubles team of Kelsey Turner (11) and Shenara Musthaq (11) didn't drop a game in both of their sets winning 6-0/6-0.
Ameena McKnight (9) won easily at third singles w/ a 6-0/6-0 victory as well. Haley Abbott (10), the most generous of players gave her opponent one game but won 6-0/6-1 at second singles.
Our first singles player, Jenna Goldstein (11) maintained control of her match and went on to win 6-4/6-1. Jenna came out strong against Hanna Kuhl from ANC. Jenna took the first few games and then her opponent started to get warm. Jenna was up 5-4 when she once again started serving like the tennis balls were coming out of a cannon and took the set 6-4. Jenna had to work hard at returning her opponents serve and the rallies went long in the second set. Jenna served and smashed balls down the alley to the backhand side and started winning the match easier. Once she began to exploit the weakness in the ANC player it was lights out. Jenna won 6-4/6-1.
As a team we only gave up 6 games to ANC and won the match 5-0.
We have a tough match on Monday with a double header of JV and Varsity at home against MFS.
