Sophomore Haley "The comet" Abbott started last year as a 9th grader on the varsity tennis team. "She played doubles mostly and really came out of nowhere to dazzle the team and defeat her opponents," said coach Jessica Smith. This year in pre-season Haley's game grew more fierce from her summer training and horse riding.
At today's match against Moorestown Friends School, Haley Abbott shone with GFS's only win against the New Jersey team. "Upon seeing Haley today I felt she looked different," said Smith.."Maybe it was all the work she did in the barn on Saturday for her horse. There was a strong muscled instigating look to her. A muscle she flexed expertly to defeat her opponent in the first set 6-0."
"She came off the court for water and brief coaching between sets. I noticed a slight shake to her. She seemed completely switched on and had a look in her eye like everything in the universe had just then started to make sense. I think we both said to each other at the same time, 'Don't let up.'"
"She went on to win the second set 6-2 with superb skill and confidence.
