The children’s collection of Friends Free Library consists of fiction and nonfiction titles that support and enhance the Lower School curriculum and stimulate interest on a wide variety of topics. We hope to instill in our students a love of books and to create a generation of lifelong readers. At the end of the school year, students are encouraged to participate in the Vacation Reading Club online blog, a program designed to promote recreational reading and book discussion during the summer months.
Library Policies
Up to four items may be checked out on a child’s card at any time. (We usually recommend that no more than two books be checked out per week. If your child is a fast reader, they may stop back at any time during the week and exchange the books they’ve read for new ones.)
Books may be checked out for two weeks and renewed for one additional two-week period.
Children with lost or overdue books on their record will not be permitted to check out additional items until the overdue book is returned to the library. Although we don’t charge overdue fines, the replacement fee for lost or damaged children’s books is $15.00 per title. Checks may be made out to “Friends Free Library” and sent in with your child or dropped off at the library reference desk.
Booklists
Access the Lower School suggested reading lists, Quakerism resources, parent resources and lesbian and gay family resources all through our library's online catalog. Here you will find icons for each of the lists. Click on the booklist of your choice and begin exploring!
