Founded in 1982, the Germantown Friends School Nursery/Preschool provides a safe, loving, and stimulating environment where children learn through play and social relationships. Our approach is grounded in Quaker testimonies. The GFS Nursery/Preschool program is located on the GFS campus at 31 West Coulter Street in Philadelphia. GFS is a Quaker coed school for grades K-12 founded in 1845.

The Nursery/Preschool opens at 7:45 a.m. and provides both full and part‑time programs for families. Half day children stay until 12:30, just after lunch. Full day children may be picked up any time before 5:00 p.m. Part-time children attend fewer than five days. The program follows the GFS school calendar. We close for winter, spring, and summer vacation as well as holidays.

GFS is an equal opportunity care provider. Read about the nursery's founding years in this Studies in Education article.

Nursery Highlights

The GFS Preschool 3 & 4 years old, recently visited the PMA to learn about and observe "opposites" in Art. We walked through the galleries with our host teacher and saw large and small paintings, standing and sitting statues and we listened to a story called The Happy Yellow Box. After our look at many forms of Art, we went into the classroom and made black and white prints. The photo is of Thalia S and Tre S looking at a big painting by Sean Scully.
