Middle School (6-8)

We welcome you to the Middle School (grades 6-8) Admissions process, and we appreciate your interest in GFS for your child. We are here to help you through the process and happy to answer any questions you may have.

Application Deadline

Though our application deadline of December 9, 2011 has passed, we will continue accepting applications. Late applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as they become complete, based on availability of space in each grade.

Financial Aid applicants please note: Financial Aid applications (due date February 3, 2012) for current students and newly accepted applicants are reviewed in mid-February. Therefore, applications for admission that are not completed by the end of January will most likely be placed on financial aid waitlist.

To apply online, click the "Apply Online" button on the right hand side of this page.  You will be asked to set up a username and password, which will allow you to complete, edit, and review your application before electronically submitting it to us. You will also be able to log in later to view application requirements and check to see if we have received all parts of your child's application.  You can request that we send you a paper application in the mail by clicking "Request Application Packet" on the right hand side of this page.

Parent Interview (and Tour)

After you have submitted your application, please call the Admissions Office to arrange your interview.  The parent interview is a chance for you to find out more about GFS and for us to find out about your child.  The interview includes a tour of our campus.  We ask both parents to come together when possible.

Student Visit(s) to GFS

Please call to arrange your visit after you have received your application acknowledgement letter.  Applicants to 6th, 7th and 8th grade visit in their current grades. Students visit for a full day with one of our student hosts.  They attend classes and are encouraged to participate in activities.  Visitors should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. We will provide a lunch ticket for use in our cafeteria. The day is concluded with a brief and informal interview with one of our admissions directors.

Students who are admitted to GFS are invited to revisit for a half day in January.  Applicants to 6th, 7th and 8th grades can revisit to the grade they are applying for, so they can get a sense of what the next year would be like.

Confidential Teacher Recommendation(s)

Please give the recommendation forms included in the application packet to your child’s current academic teacher(s) to be completed in early December. Middle and Upper School applicants should submit (2) teacher recommendations. We prefer that one of the recommendations be from a math teacher. The Teacher Recommendation form is also available at the right in the "Download Supplemental Forms" box.

Admissions Testing

Middle School SSAT  (Secondary School Admissions Test) or ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) is required and arranged online by each family.  A brochure with details is included in our information packet.
