explore our CAMPUS

What's cool about our campus is that it's spread out over seven acres in Philadelphia's historic neighborhood of Germantown. The buildings are an eclectic mix of old and new, a unique look and feel more consistent with a college campus. With three gyms, three auditoriums, a student center, numerous open, green spaces and nine classroom buildings, it's a place worthy of adoration and exploration. The Meetinghouse, at the center of it all, provides a beautiful and spiritual focal point.

The Pillars of A

Quaker Education

At GFS, students and teachers gather in Meeting for Worship once each week. This is a time for shared, silent contemplation. Anyone who feels moved to speak may rise and do so. It is a simple formula, and can be a remarkably powerful experience. In these days of constant connectivity, the ability and opportunity to sit in silence have special value. Meeting for Worship is a cornerstone of the GFS culture that many come to cherish throughout their lives.

Summer Camp News

From Fred | A Look at Our Day!

Dear Campers,

I am getting more and more excited for the beginning of Explorer Camp, and I hope you are, too!

One thing I'm especially excited about is Community Choice Time. This is a time in the afternoons when you'll get to drop in to join our counselors or CITs as they each do something that they really love and that they want to share with you. Maybe it'll be speaking French, or doing a four-by-four relay, or learning to juggle. You'll get to choose which activity or activities you'd like to join, and each day will be different!

Another thing I'm very excited about is camper groups. In the afternoon for a few days of the week, you'll join up with the same group of other campers outside of your mini-courses. In your camper group, you'll get to know each other, play games, and even make and share something with the rest of the camp. Maybe your group will share a song, or a painting, or a dance. Your group will decide!

At Explorer Camp, your voice and your contributions will be important and special. And guess what... What I'm most excited about is getting to know you!

'Til soon,

Fred

(Your Explorer Camp Assistant Director and Master of Ceremonies!)

All the Summer's a Stage!

Do you love theater and performing? I do. I love making plays, playing music, and acting.

My name is Fred, and I'll be an assistant director at GFS Explorer Camp this summer. At camp this summer, during Weeks 1, 3, and 6, we'll have a Theater Games mini-course, where you can play improv games with one of our fantastic instructors. During Weeks 2 and 5, you can sign up for a mini-course in Live-Action Roleplay, which is a mix of performance and competition, with a magical twist! And during Weeks 1 and 6, you can try out our Rhythm & Voice mini-course, where we'll create a soundscape performance using everyday objects as our instruments!

Outside of these mini-courses, Explorer Camp will be full of creative exploration and performances every day. Each day will start with a Morning Meeting and a performance by the counselors, directors, or counselors-in-training. Every afternoon we will have Community Choice time, which will include options to play imaginative games (or other fun activities, like a musical jam session or learning to knit or reading under a tree.) At the end of each week, every camper has the chance to something they made at camp to their parents at the Explorer Showcase!

I would love to meet you at Explorer Camp this summer and to see all the creative things you can do!

Fred

Calling All Middle Schoolers!

Hello Future Counselors-in-Training, aka, Leaders and Changers of the World,

This Summer, you have an opportunity to meet new friends and make a difference by growing as a leader with the new Explorer Camp Counselor-in-Training program!

Over the course of the six-week Explorer Camp program, our team of Middle School CITs will integrate Leadership Life Lessons into fun activities like Cooking, Tag, Obstacle Courses, Imagination Exercises, Meditation, Dance and Movement.

You will get to assist the Explorer Instructors as they teach their mini-courses in dissection, robotics, chocolatiering, mural art, and more! You will learn the ins and outs of planning community events as you and your fellow CITs stage each week's Friday Showcase and Ice Cream Fun-dae. And, you will get to work with the Camp Leadership Team to share your goals, questions and challenges.

Every day will be your opportunity to lead yourself, your campers, and the direction of our camp culture. We will give you tools to connect with our campers, tune in to their needs, and consider the value of being a role model and serving others.

We invite you to join us this Summer for a new type of camp experience. Together we will put a memorable and magical touch on Explorer Camp and develop insights and life skills on our quest to become leaders who can make a positive impact on those around them.

Spaces for the Explorer CIT Program are filling fast, so sign up today!

See you soon,

Wizard and Chef, Steven Siglin
Director of Explorer Camp CITs
