Influenza season is almost here. To help protect our school population against the flu, we are pleased to announce that GFS is hosting a vaccination event on Wednesday, November 3rd from 3 to 7 pm. This event is open to all faculty, staff, parents and students over the age of 4.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends annual flu immunization of ALL people aged 6 months and older. Additionally, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) distinguishes adolescents as a high-risk group. Vaccination not only protects individuals who receive the vaccine but also increases the resistance of the community through herd immunity. Along with hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes and social distancing (staying home when you are sick), flu immunization can help substantially reduce absenteeism and discomfort due to illness.
This year the influenza A H1N1 (2009) strain will be included in the seasonal flu vaccine. Therefore, this coming flu season only one shot will be necessary, as it will cover seasonal flu as well as influenza A H1N1 (2009).
Students, parents and the greater GFS community can get a flu vaccination on the GFS campus on Wednesday November 3rd from 3 to 7 pm. The cost at this event is $30, which is comparable to the cost at your neighborhood pharmacy. Check with your insurance provider, as the cost may be reimbursable. A staff of experienced nurses will administer the flu vaccinations.
PARENTS You must complete two copies of a consent form per child. One is for the Maxim Health Systems to use for records the other is your verification if you choose to submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement.
On, or before, the day of the event you or your child must bring the following: • a check made out to Maxim Health systems for $30, or $30 in cash • 2 completed consent forms, including your child’s name and your signature. Consents can be signed and delivered before the vaccination date.
Please consider flu vaccination this year and encourage your son or daughter to get vaccinated. A reminder with location and details will be posted in October. To learn more about this event, please contact me, Marie Larkin, School Nurse at 215 951 2308 or mariel@gfsnet.org.
