Middle and Upper School students at Germantown Friends School had a special guest lecturer last week: Cindy Bass, 8th District City Councilwoman. Bass (pictured with GFS Head of School Dick Wade) was the 21st speaker in the Tate Lecture for Public Service lecture series, which features prominent names from various fields of public service and is named for Mercer Tate, GFS Class of 1948, who devoted his live to public service. Bass spoke about her path to City Hall, including stints working for then-State Senator (now Congresswoman) Allyson Schwartz and Congressman Chaka Fattah, and her commitment to her district’s challenging issues, such as blight and crime in Germantown.
“I always try to be honest and tell people where I stand on an issue,” Councilwoman Bass shared with the students. “My intention is to leave very little undone. That’s how I operate.”
