On Tuesday, October 16, the GFS Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country teams won their eleventh straight Friends Schools League titles. These championships tie the all-time FSL Record for most consecutive championships ever won.
For the boys, Sami Aziz ’13 broke the George School course record in 15:52 to place first overall. Lyle Wistar ’13 (second, 16:56) and Henry Shah ’13 (third, 17:08) swept the top three places while Paul Maxson ’13 (fifth, 17:23) and James Finney ’14 (sixth,17:26) rounded out the Top 5 at 17 points. Ben Stassen ’13 (eighth, 17:33) and Andy Bugos ’14 (tenth,17:49) completed the varsity seven and medaled in the Top 10.
For the girls, Eliza Lukens-Day ’13 won her first FSL title in a personal best of 19:24. Isabel Goldstein ’13 (third,19:56), Caitlin Harrity ’16 (fifth, 20:09), Alice Wistar ’16 (seventh, 20:18), and Alison Love ’14 (eighth, 20:33) rounded out the Top 5 with 24 points in a 20:04 5-man average. Brigit Andersson ’15 medaled in ninth place, running 20:38, while Arielle Frank ’15 (eleventh, 20:58) completed the Top 7 in a 20:16 seven-man average.
But the winning streak didn’t stop there! On Saturday, October 27, the Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country teams successfully defended their PA Independent Schools State Championship titles at Belmont Plateau. For the boys, it marked their seventh straight championship and their sixth straight JV Championship. For the girls, it was their second straight championship.
