Student Athletes Commit to Play in College

On Monday, February 27, five standout student-athletes participated in a signing ceremony in the Friends Free Library. Surrounded by coaches, teachers, family and friends, these five young women—who have all signed a Letter of Intent to play a Division I sport next year, and were decked out in their new team colors—were celebrated by Katie Bergstrom Mark, the Director of Athletics and Varsity Lacrosse Coach.

“What I love about this group is that when you watch them compete in their respective sports, they are really joyous—you can tell they do it for all of the right reasons,” said Bergstrom. “They are competitors and complete athletes; they dedicate their lives to being healthy, to being fit, to being dynamic performers and strong role models for their teammates. They are leaders in our community.”

Lydie McKenzie ’12 is heading to Dartmouth in the fall to play squash, and Annie Morrissey ’12 will also go to Dartmouth, to play lacrosse. Iris Williamson ’12 will play lacrosse for the Quakers at Penn, and Carey Celata ’12 will join the Penn squash team. Tess Doggett ’12 has committed to run track and cross country at St. Joe’s University.

“It has been a privilege to watch you on the track, courts and fields representing Germantown Friends School,” Bergstrom told the young women in conclusion.
