This past Wednesday, May 15, 2013, you may have hear the excited yammer of multiple foreign tongues. No, it wasn't the Tower of Babel, but you are close: It was the annual Language Day Celebration in the Middle School. Each year, seventh grade students in French, Spanish and Latin classes celebrate the day with mouth-watering, homemade food and an assortment of lively entertainment. Spanish students begin with a fusion of Cuban food and Spanish delicacies, while the French students prepare a variety of crepes and the Latin students enjoy such traditional Greek fare as baklava, moussaka, stuffed grape leaves and meatball smyrna.
After their respective feasts, Spanish students learned about the history and instruments of Latin music from music teacher Jeff Torchon and participated in a salsa lesson. French students will took time out to watch their own, unique rendition of the film “Red Balloon” (previously written, recorded and starring themselves!), and Latin students created and filmed their own Greek Tragedy/Comedy.
