The group sold over 400 delicious churros and various baked goods and far surpassed their fundraising goal to raise a total of $444.00! The donation was made last week and books arrived at the class today. The teacher wrote us the following note:
"Dear Kate Hanssen and Latinos Unidos,
I cannot thank you enough. It is great to have new books. It is one of my favorite activities to have a class or two of kids open a new box of books and peruse them. They get very excited and grabby! I always give the boxes to the least enthusiastic classes, and it never fails that all the books are gone before another class gets to see them boxed up. Even kids who say they do not read get excited at the opportunity to read a brand new book. These books are being read immediately! All year we have been reading, and as the year goes on kids tell me titles they have read and loved and suggest I need to get them for my shelf. Thanks to you I was able to fulfill this year's wish list. It is a cool thing to see kids, who started at this school as resistant readers, request a book they heard another student talk about. It happens frequently, and because of you it will happen even more.
With gratitude, Ms. Durbano"
