Admissions >Meet Our Student Tour Guides >

Every day at GFS, our Upper School Admissions Tour Guides provide visitors with tours of campus and their perspectives of life at GFS.  Here are some profiles of them, and their thoughts about GFS for prospective students. If you're a student considering GFS, and you'd like to hear more from a current GFS student, just ask our Admissions Office.

Tom Sullivan -11th grade
Came to GFS: 7th grade
Lives in: Glenside
Likes:  Environmental Action; Earthquake student newspaper; wrestling; playing drums in jazz ensemble.
What do you want to tell a prospective student?
The teachers here love class participation. They help you attempt to dig deep into a source or topic. My advanced chemistry teacher says theories and models are there to be tested. And we do.
My favorite thing about GFS:
Essentially English courses in the spring. You can choose a topic you like, in a daytime or evening class, with parents and other community members. Definitely a highlight.

Melanie Mason - 10th grade
Came to GFS: 7th grade
Lives in: Wyndmoor
Likes: Field hockey; softball; Community Action; Earthquake student newspaper
What do you want to tell a prospective student?
You get to choose electives that you want to take, like a foreign language. I chose Spanish. And you can set up a Directed Independent Study course to take something that you really like. I chose creative writing because I love it.
My favorite thing about GFS:
The Mexican exchange! In 9th grade I lived in Tlaxcala for a month. It was the most fun experience I ever had.

Bree Jackson - 11th grade
Came to GFS: 8th grade
Lives in: West Philadelphia
Likes: Biracial Club; Model UN; Straight and Gay Alliance; Multicultural Students Union; Earthquake student newspaper; Music Club; lacrosse; tennis.
What do you want to tell a prospective student?
The classes here are like nothing I had seen before in my former school. GFS teachers want you to ask questions. You don’t have to say something brilliant – you can just be curious.
My favorite thing about GFS:
Choosing courses I love, like Greek and Latin. I’ve also taken Chinese as a Directed Independent Study course, and I’m taking a junior-senior seminar studying images of Jesus with my history teacher.

Diego Sanz - 10th grade
Came to GFS: 1st grade
Lives in: Wyndmoor
Likes: Squash; tennis; skiing
What do you want to tell a prospective student?
It prepares you well for what’s coming ahead in life. And, since your friends are here, it’s fun coming back after every vacation.
My favorite thing about GFS:
The 9th grade trip to Washington DC with the Spanish and French exchange students. We went around the mall and to the Air and Space Museum. It was amazing.

Sarah Bergman -11th grade
Came to GFS: 3rd grade
Lives in: Mt. Airy
Likes: Soccer; winter/spring track; Polyphony literary magazine; Community Action
What do you want to tell a prospective student?
GFS gives you a chance to do really cool things, like the independent Junior Project in January.
My favorite thing about GFS:
My junior project! I’m so excited about doing something outside of school. I’ll be working with a pastry chef in France.

Christopher Golson - 11th grade
Came to GFS:  9th grade
Lives in:  Blue Bell
Likes:  Choir; Multicultural Students Union; BASE (Brothers for Academic and Social Enrichment); Current Events club; Earthquake student newspaper; track and field; drama.
What do you want to tell a prospective student?
You get to feel really included --like you are a part of the community but as an individual.  You feel a sense of self, but also a sense of community.
My favorite thing about GFS:
Doing the InnDwelling project on the 10th Grade Day of Service.  We helped to renovate transitional housing.  I got to understand why you would help somebody. That feeling is invaluable -- when you know you've done something good for somebody else.
