Meet Devra Ramsey

Meet Devra Ramsey

Division: Upper School
Teaches: Advanced Calculus 1 & 2, Integrated Calculus 1, 2 & 3

Every Wednesday morning in the summer, GFS Upper School faculty met at Chestnut Hill Coffee for “Coffee Tawk,” an informal gathering where they discussed teaching challenges, traded advice, and brainstormed ideas.

Initially founded by Ramsey as a virtual meet-up in Spring 2020, Coffee Tawk aims to keep faculty connected and engaged with pedagogical discussions, both prompted and spontaneous.

“It’s a long time between June and August, and Coffee Tawk is a way I can keep in touch with my community,” Devra said. “It’s also a space to bring things we’re thinking about, and turn those over together.”

After summer 2023, faculty urged Devra to continue the meetings during the school year, leading her to create a series of Wednesday lunch meetings called FLunch (Faculty Lunch). These gatherings provide an open forum for faculty to collaborate on teaching topics.

“I kind of always want to be talking about teaching,” she said. “And, if you get to know somebody better because you shared a conversation, it might just make you better colleagues.”
