Abigail R. Cohen ’91 Memorial Art Lecture with Kevin Snipes
Our community gathered together to welcome artist Kevin Snipes for the annual Cohen Art Lecture. He discussed his journey to becoming an artist, the concepts of ceramics, and the inspiration behind his works.
“I’ve always wanted to play with this idea of being an other,” he said. “[With my artwork], I started making things that looked at duality and contrast: day and night, light and dark. I wanted to focus on two-sided stories.”
Primarily a ceramic artist, Kevin combines techniques of narrative figure drawing, text, and hand-formed porcelain constructions to create objects that can be seen as multi-layered paintings.
