Congrats to GFS’ College-Bound Student Athletes

The GFS Class of 2024 includes eight senior student-athletes who will be continuing their athletics careers in college. This group gathered on Tuesday, April 30, in the Friends Free Library for a signing day ceremony. Coaches, administrators, families, and classmates were all present to celebrate these students who have committed to playing a collegiate sport.

The college-bound Tigers are:

  • Dean Yao (soccer): California Institute of Tech
  • Ben Schutta (track & field): Bates College
  • Da’Vid Robinson (soccer/track & field): Rochester Institute of Technology
  • Becca Rasmussen (crew): University of Wisconsin Madison
  • Timo Radinov (squash): Colby College
  • Jasper Mosley (track & field): Swarthmore College
  • Cara Appleberry (crew): Georgetown University
  • PJ Kresloff (track & field): Washington University in St. Louis

Traditionally, official signing ceremonies take place in the fall, to mark the day when Division I athletes sign a National Letter of Intent, a binding agreement between the athlete and the college or university. This year, as requested by the GFS Division I seniors, the signing day ceremony was pushed to spring so their classmates committing to Division II and Division III schools could also participate.

“GFS Athletics is proud to cultivate a culture where our scholar-athletes, from the most elite competitors to those still honing their skills, can find a home,” Athletic Director Katie Bergstrom Mark emphasized. “Our expert coaches provide knowledge, guidance, and support for our student-athletes and their families to achieve their goals athletically and academically. Seeing our scholar-athletes merge their many passions, find the right fit, and embark on their next chapter is so rewarding. We can’t wait to follow their careers!”

Hard work and teamwork are the guiding principles of GFS Athletics, and each of these students embody those values on and off the field, court, and track. The community will be cheering them on as they take their games to the next level this fall!
