Conrad Benner Brings Street Art to GFS

On Monday, April 8, Conrad Benner, art curator, photographer, and blogger for Streets Dept inspired Upper School students and guests during the Abigail R. Cohen '91 Memorial Art Lecture.

Joshua Kulak '21 said, "This was one of my top three favorite assemblies. It was very cool to get someone else's perspective on street art, someone who studies it and knows a lot about it. It was a good echo to Monument Lab, which we heard about last year. It also reminded me of my trip to Chile. I saw street art there centered around the same themes."

By sharing and curating art, Conrad is able to tell stories, bring people together, start conversations, and help people and communities make change. Check out streetsdept.com and see how you can even fill potholes with art.

This annual art lecture is named after Abigail (Abby) Cohen '91, who was a beloved friend, sister, daughter and classmate. Her life as an artist and photographer was dedicated to the pursuit of social and aesthetic concerns.

Abby's brother, Jonathan Cohen '88, and his wife, Julia Pershan, established this important lecture series to honor Abby's passion for photographic art, as well as her love of GFS.
