Olivia Fiechter Weaver ‘14, made history at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile last week. Earning two gold medals and one silver medal, the squash star helped Team USA set a record in the Individual Event, winning all three Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for the first time.
"As an athlete and leader in high school (and her eighth grade season), Olivia always put the team aspect ahead of her personal needs," said GFS Director of Athletics Katie Bergstrom Mark. "As the top high school player nationally she could have easily opted out of playing for GFS, but she continued to dedicate time to creating a positive team culture and helping her teammates get better."
As a Tiger, Olivia was a two-sport athlete, playing squash and tennis, leading GFS to win two tennis FSL titles, as well as its highest national squash ranking (#5) in the nation. After five years on the varsity squash team she was undefeated and set the winningest record in program history. She received All-League First Team honors four times and was team captain in her junior and senior years. GFS coaches attribute the school's strong squash tradition in large part to Olivia's ongoing influence.
According to Bergstrom Mark, any student athlete that got a chance to work with Olivia, learned something from her. "I would include coaches and myself in that as well."
