Upper School Assembly with "New York Times" Journalist Katie Benner

Upper School Assembly with "New York Times" Journalist Katie Benner

This week, our Upper School students had the opportunity to hear from journalist Katie Benner, who covers the Justice Department for The New York Times, and was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2018 for public service for reporting on workplace sexual harassment issues. During the discussion, Katie talked about her career path, what it takes to find and interview sources, and the role of a reporter in our society.

“In the work I do today, I have to have empathy, I need to connect with people whose lives are different from mine… and I have to convince them to trust me [to tell their story],” she said.

A special thank you to the English Department and the GFS Center for Journalism + Social Impact for hosting this wonderful event. You can view a recording of the assembly here!
