Katie Bergstrom Mark Appointed Director of Enrollment Management

Katie Bergstrom Mark has been appointed Director of Enrollment Management at Germantown Friends School, effective July 1, 2026. A long-serving leader at GFS, Bergstrom Mark brings a proven track record as a staunch GFS ambassador and a critical partner in the work of Admissions. She has also been a committed advocate and resource for generations of students and their families, often beginning during their admissions process, and extending throughout their GFS years, into college, and well beyond.

During her 25-year tenure at GFS, Bergstrom Mark has skillfully led GFS’ Athletics and Physical Education Department. Most notably, she has increased student participation at all levels, while expanding the department significantly, launching and developing programs in Crew and Golf, and bringing on dedicated student support staff in the areas of sports medicine, strength and conditioning, mental health training, college recruitment, and mental performance coaching.

Bergstrom Mark assumes this role following the retirement of Laura Sharpless Myran who led the department with great distinction for 20 years. Previously, she served as a teacher, advisor, and coach at GFS for 18 years. Sharpless Myran capably steered the Admissions Department through the challenges of the 2008 market downturn and COVID, ultimately increasing enrollment to its highest ever, a 31% increase. In addition, the early childhood division expanded to a second location in Center City and doubled in size.

As an experienced and respected Athletic Director within the Friends Schools League, Bergstrom Mark has advocated and upheld the values and high expectations of the league through her clerking, committee work, commissionerships, and policy development, and by creating professional opportunities for coaches and colleagues. Her collaborative and skillful leadership has resulted in greater equity and access both throughout the league and within member schools.
