Tigers Lacrosse Secures Felsen Cup in Shutout Victory

Germantown Friends School Lacrosse returned to competition in dominant fashion on Wednesday, April 8, earning a decisive 13–0 victory over Friends' Central School and securing a crucial Felsen Cup point in the process.

The matchup marked the Tigers’ first game back following spring break and provided an exciting opportunity for the team to showcase the growth and momentum built during their spring training trip to Naples. From the opening draw, GFS played with energy, focus, and cohesion, setting the tone for what would become a complete team performance.

Senior Olivia Lutey played a strong game with three goals and an assist.

The Tigers controlled the pace throughout, combining disciplined defense with a balanced and efficient attack. Leading the way offensively was Olivia Lutey ’26, who tallied three goals and added an assist, consistently creating scoring opportunities and applying pressure on the opposing defense. Alina Yu ’27 made a strong return to the field, contributing two goals and two assists while demonstrating poise and vision that elevated the entire offensive unit. Their efforts, along with contributions across the lineup, highlighted the team’s depth and unselfish style of play.

Goalkeeper Cat Rogers ’27 recorded nine saves on nine shots in the shutout game against Friends' Central.

Defensively, GFS delivered a standout performance anchored by goalkeeper Cat Rogers ’27, who recorded nine saves on nine shots for a perfect 100% save percentage. The defensive unit in front of her remained disciplined and organized throughout the game, limiting quality opportunities and maintaining consistent communication. Together, they secured the shutout and underscored the team’s commitment to playing strong, connected defense.

“I’m really proud of Cat’s shutout in goal today, and credit to our defense for staying disciplined all game," said Coach Rachel Hegarty, reflecting on the performance. "It is great to have Alina back after last season and make such an impact. Today’s game was a good start to an important week.”

Her comments echoed the team’s focus not only on this victory, but on building momentum as the season progresses.

With this win, GFS claims the Felsen Cup point and extends its lead to 8–4 in the year-long competition against Friends’ Central, continuing to build school-wide pride and excitement around the rivalry. The Tigers will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as they host Abington Friends School on Friday, April 10, at 4 p.m. Fans, families, and community members are encouraged to come out and support the team as they continue their strong start to the season.
