The Upper School Asian Student Alliance (ASA), alongside our international students from China and in partnership with the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, celebrated the Lunar New Year throughout January and Februar.
In lieu of the annual all-school Lunar New Year Celebration (usually held in person), divisions were busy across campus, preparing to ring in the Year of the Tiger with joy and enthusiasm. Upper School groups distributed traditional red envelopes to students in Early Childhood through sixth grade. Our seventh and eighth-grade students received Lunar New Year stickers created their own Wishing Wall, inspired by the one in Upper School (pictured above). Our Upper School students made their wishes during advisory and assembled lanterns throughout Wade and Hargroves to decorate our community spaces. Students also tuned into a livestream of the Grand Chinese Lunar New Year Gala on January 31.
The Friends Free Library, in partnership with the DEI Office, also compiled a collection of resources for students in each division. Below, please find links to bitmoji story libraries for children in Early Childhood through fifth grade. Click on the images for links to stories or videos celebrating Lunar New Year. The third link highlights some books in our Young Adult and Main Reading Room collections, and honors the work of authors of Asian descent. This display was created using titles selected by Upper School student Sarah Li ’24, who created an accompanying display in the library.
