The Multicultural Parents Alliance (MPA) hosted Dr. Jessica Isom for this year’s Inspirational Speaker for Change. In the hour-long session, Dr. Isom talked with students, families, and GFS community members about how to recognize and name the behaviors that prevent productive discussions about race, and to understand the importance of talking about race without creating racial stress.
Dr. Isom’s anti-racism teaching highlights medical racism, interpersonal challenges, and interracial attractions, and provides a language for naming and responding to racism at multiple levels. She is the founder of Vision for Equity, which provides diversity, equity, and inclusion education and facilitation. Dr. Isom is also a board-certified community psychiatrist and clinical instructor in the Yale Department of Psychiatry, and an attending psychiatrist at Codman Square Health Center in Boston.
