Peace Talk With George Lakey

Last week, Upper School students, faculty, and staff took time for education, reflection, and worship, guided by our Peace testimonies, to discuss the unfolding war in Ukraine. Students heard from Quaker peace activist George Lakey, who has co-founded and co-organized numerous peace organizations and activist groups throughout his career. He taught in the peace studies programs at University of Pennsylvania and Haverford College, among other universities in the area. In 2010, he was named by the National Peace and Justice Studies Association as "Peace Educator of the Year." Students also had the opportunity to participate in a short-story reading from Ukrainian writer Yevgenia Belorusets and "Art for Peace in Ukraine," a global student-driven art campaign.

Art for Peace in Ukraine
Check out the cool artwork being created by seventh-grade students! As part of #ArtForPeaceInUkraine, a global, student-driven art movement, students in seventh grade were inspired to create ceramic sunflowers in solidarity. The artwork was displayed with a QR code in the gardens in front of the main building.
