More than 150 people gathered this past Sunday, September 16 in the Hargroves Center, when we hosted our first Alumni of Color/Multicultural Parents Alliance Potluck. Among the attendees were 25 alumni of color who connected with students and parents.
Choral entertainment kicked off the afternoon, as the GFS Choir sang two selections: "Bring Me Little Water, Sylvie" and "The Lord Bless You and Keep You." Our new Choir Director, Frank Van Atta, invited GFS alums who sang in the choir to join in during "The Lord Bless You," and Dwayne Grannum '89 and Jen Chu '03 took part.
Following the choir performance, Michelle Palmer, our Alumni Diversity Manager, welcomed the group, followed by Andrew Lee, our Associate Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Mark Anderson, our faculty advisor for BASE; Natasha Labbe, our faculty advisor for Sistahs; and Geeta Simons, the chair of the Multicultural Parents Alliance.
The rest of the afternoon was spent playing games and mingling. Thanks to everyone for coming out on this beautiful day!
