To raise awareness about issues impacting LGBTQ students across the country and globe, GFS will observe the national Day of Silence on Tuesday, April 9. During this student-led event, individuals will take a vow of silence to highlight the erasure of LGBTQ people in schools.
At GFS, we will honor this day with age-appropriate silent reflection and discussion. We are finalizing plans for recognizing the Day of Silence across all divisions.
Nationally, this event is organized by GLSEN, a champion of LGBTQ issues in education with a mission to create safe and affirming schools for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. The national event is scheduled for April 12, but GFS will observe on April 9 to make sure our entire community has the opportunity to participate, as this message is important in our mission to welcome and listen to the voices of all students and individuals.
