explore our CAMPUS

What's cool about our campus is that it's spread out over seven acres in Philadelphia's historic neighborhood of Germantown. The buildings are an eclectic mix of old and new, a unique look and feel more consistent with a college campus. With three gyms, three auditoriums, a student center, numerous open, green spaces and nine classroom buildings, it's a place worthy of adoration and exploration. The Meetinghouse, at the center of it all, provides a beautiful and spiritual focal point.

The Pillars of A

Quaker Education

At GFS, students and teachers gather in Meeting for Worship once each week. This is a time for shared, silent contemplation. Anyone who feels moved to speak may rise and do so. It is a simple formula, and can be a remarkably powerful experience. In these days of constant connectivity, the ability and opportunity to sit in silence have special value. Meeting for Worship is a cornerstone of the GFS culture that many come to cherish throughout their lives.

We are honored to be named as the #1 Best Private K-12 School in Pennsylvania for the second year in a row by Niche.com, a prominent platform for researching U.S. schools. GFS also ranked #1 Best Private High School, #1 Best High School for STEM in PA, and #19 Best Private K-12 Schools in America.

GFS earned this ranking by scoring highly on a variety of factors including SAT scores, student-teacher ratio, the quality of colleges students consider, and reviews from students and parents. The statistical data used in this ranking was obtained from the U.S. Department of Education and supplemental data collected directly from more than 4,000 schools and then analyzed by Niche's team of data scientists to create the 2019 rankings.

While we understand that there's more to success than external recognition, we are particularly pleased that our thoughtful coursework and experiences within science, technology, and mathematics was recognized by the top STEM ranking. We also recognize that every subject, from math to modern languages, interconnects within our classical education framework.

"At a K-12 school like GFS, we get to see how a child's interest in STEM-related subjects builds over time and all the innumerable ways curiosity grows and the imagination gets lit," said Carol Rawlings Miller, Director of Academic Program. "There's a dynamic interplay between classic scientific coursework and experiential learning that's a long-standing tradition here."

"We welcome this endorsement from Niche and celebrate our many outstanding peers—both in our area and across the country," said Dana Weeks, Head of School. "GFS' belief that every person is special and unique offers a valuable environment to discover and nurture hidden talents and raise our community's diverse voices. Thank you to everyone who contributes to GFS and joins me in stating that our student joy and development is always our top honor."

Students were excited to hear about the news and expressed why they feel GFS is special.

"I like being a student at GFS because every year you get a chance to meet new people in your class from different backgrounds," said Adrian Dussler '28. "I really like my teachers because they're always open to new ideas."

Anu McCulloch '20 said, "I really like being with kids who are interested in and excited about learning like I am."
