Maya Keren '18 was recently named a 2018 National Merit Scholar. Honorees are chosen based on a combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Maya is one of only 102 honorees in all of Pennsylvania and among 2,500 across the United States.
In addition to outstanding academic achievement, Maya is also a talented jazz musician. She was recently recognized as a Merit Winner in the area of Jazz piano by the National YoungArts Foundation program, which recognizes emerging artists, and earned Finalist accolades in the Grammy Band competition that brings together the top high school musicians for a weeklong tour.
Maya also played varsity soccer and basketball, served as one of the musical directors of our Upper School a cappella group, and was a student leader of the literary magazine, Polyphony.
“I was surprised, honored, and grateful to receive this honor,” Maya said. “It has given me more confidence that no matter what I pursue, if I work as hard going forward, I will be able to achieve my goals.”
We'll miss having Maya on campus, but we wish her well at Princeton University next fall, where she hopes to pursue a career that combines music and science.
