Rachel Profit Scott began as the Assistant Director of Athletics earlier this week and will support the day-to-day operations of the Athletics program. Profit Scott's range of experience in all facets of athletics provides a solid foundation for her position. As a Division 1 athlete, coach, programs director, parent, and wife of an NFL scout, she has been exposed to a plethora of authentic athletic landscapes. “I’ve spent over 2,000 hours in sports-focused lectures and classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and strive to offer a unique lens and fresh perspectives in support of the continual improvement of the exceptional athletics program at GFS,” said Profit Scott.
Prior to GFS, Profit Scott served as Programs Director at Northern Virginia Volleyball Association and has 15+ years of coaching and youth leadership training and experience. She also formerly served as a Pediatric Therapeutic Fitness Specialist where she provided individual and group multi-sensory programs to promote growth and development for children of all levels, including those with Autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, and learning disorders.
Profit Scott earned her B.S. from the University of Maryland, College Park, in Kinesiology and Physical Education and her Master’s Degree from Georgetown University in Sports Industry Management with a Concentration in Business, Management, and Operations. In high school in Washington D.C., Profit Scott was a four-year, three-sport athlete and garnered Gatorade Player of the Year (Volleyball) honors. She then went on to compete in the ACC at the University of Maryland. She is looking forward to bringing her love of interscholastic athletics to Germantown Friends School.
“GFS is special. I am thoroughly impressed with GFS’ values, strong leadership, and commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,” said Profit Scott. “I first chose GFS as a parent (of a GFS Center City Early Childhood student) and upon joining the incredible community was immediately inclined to seek opportunities for school involvement. I am grateful to Katie Bergstrom Mark and the athletics department staff for welcoming me and anticipate great teamwork ahead! I look forward to the many smiles in the hallways, high fives at practices and games, and Tiger traditions experienced together!”
“We had nearly one-hundred applications for the position of Assistant Director of Athletics and I’m thankful to the GFS Search Committee for their dedication to finding the ideal candidate,” said Katie Bergstrom Mark, Director of Athletics. “During the process, Rachel rose to the top immediately; each interview she brought something new and dynamic and shared insights on skills she could bring to our program including an eye for new systems.”
Profit Scott’s role will have a Middle School focus and impactful presence in the Athletics Department, Bergstrom Mark noted. “Rachel’s dynamic leadership skills will definitely manifest in mentoring strong athletes and coaches and further our philosophical commitment to providing more opportunities for growth through athletics.”
