In September, GFS students participated in a tree planting ceremony in Awbury Arboretum. With help from the Parent's Association, GFS students in third and seventh grades participated in S(tree)twork, an arts-based organization aiming to build upon the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's nationally celebrated Tree Tenders program to further increase public awareness, appreciation, and participation in proliferating Philadelphia’s urban forest, particularly in neighborhoods with the fewest trees.
On September 26, during the public art project, students and the famous Sun Ra Arkestra "summoned the forest!" Students helped to carry the seedling trees into one of Awbury's meadows, where they helped lead the Arkestra in beginning their performance. It was a great chance for the students to connect and represent the Germantown community!
