Disgraceful violence and endeavors to breach our country's democracy shook us all this week. As a community, we strongly condemn these acts of force and insurrection, the ongoing attempts to retain power illegally and through disinformation, unremitting injustices and inequities, hateful religious intolerance, and the threatening use of weapons. We condemn the ongoing abdication of our collective responsibility to protect Black life.
Let us hold those in the Light who are courageously managing this crisis and defending democracy on behalf of our nation.
Reflecting on this week, we want to thank our community for providing Light and hope, and for centering Truth, the power of the Quaker testimony of Integrity, and action – all while also taking care of one another. Thank you to our phenomenal teachers who continued to be there for our students – even virtually. And thank you to our students, who shared their thoughts, ideas, and hopes during Upper, Middle, and Lower School Meetings for Worship - reminding us of the power of their voices and ability to impact our future in profound, positive ways.
An educational organization called Teaching Tolerance shared a thoughtful article and strategy for supporting students in responding to disturbing current events—Listen, Protect, Model, and Take Care of Yourself. We wanted to share this article, as it is a helpful resource for all of our families and friends.
We continue to work as a community towards greater justice and unity. Shown are pictures from the 2020 Peace March with GFS and Greene Street Friends and the 2018 Walkout for Gun Control.
