Essentially GFS: Night Classes For All

An elderly woman with gray hair is sitting at a table, intently focused on painting a colorful design on a canvas in a cluttered but vibrant art studio environment.
Two elderly individuals, a woman with gray hair and a man wearing glasses, engaged in conversation in what appears to be a small, cluttered room with shelves in the background.
A person in a dark shirt is interacting with a large screen displaying a vibrant, dynamic image in a room with shelves and other furnishings.
A hand is holding a colorful, abstract artwork composed of various geometric shapes and patterns against a blurred, textured background.
The image shows a group of young people, likely students, sitting in what appears to be a classroom or study area. They are engaged in conversation or study, with various personal belongings and supplies visible in the background.

New this year, Essentially GFS offers a series of cross-disciplinary learning experiences inspired by the legendary Essentially English program, where Upper School students and parents took English courses together.

Essentially GFS welcomes Upper School students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends to take a class together and explore material in new ways. All courses are pay-what-you-can, with a suggested contribution of $300 to help defray program costs. Current students may enroll at no cost.

I love the concept of people in different stages of their lives—students, alumni, former teachers, former and current parents—coming together to experience the caliber of the faculty and the education that we offer here.CAROL RAWLINGS MILLER, DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC PROGRAM

The material was quite interesting and presented in a way that generated direct and personal sharing and discussion. I gained new insights and perspectives not only from the teachers but from everyone in the room.Essentially gfs student, fall 2025
