Advising & Support
Each Upper School grade has a grade advisor, or team of advisors, responsible for overseeing the academic, social and emotional success of each student and acting as the primary liaison between families and the school. (Parents can access current advisor assignment lists in the Parent portal of this site.)
In addition, ninth and tenth graders are assigned to small advisory groups that meet weekly with a grade advisor. This work is supported by faculty at each grade who meet weekly to review student progress, discuss grade-wide issues, and plan events and interdisciplinary projects. Parents can access advisor assignment lists in the Parent portal of this site.
Additionally, each student is assigned to a small homeroom group, and the homeroom teacher provides daily contact for those students each morning. GFS encourages a partnership with families on behalf of each student; placing the student at the center of our work together will provide the best opportunities for growth and success. The Upper School Head of School, the learning specialist, and the full-time nurse and school psychologist are also valuable resources for student advising and support.
