Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia, a program of GFS, offers a free summer academic enrichment program for students in rising grades 6-8 from Philadelphia area public, charter, and parochial schools. Breakthrough student Jarius has been in the program for two years. "My original plan was to become a baseball player,” he says. “I want to be really good at sports, but also really smart and able to articulate my words like athlete Chris Bosh."
Breakthrough helps prepare middle school students for future academic success and trains high school and college students interested in careers in education. Teaching fellows get one-on-one support from instructional coaches. “We try to make sure that they have every tool that they need to get into the classroom,” says Executive Director Michelle Palmer.
