Jordan Dill Becomes GFS All-Time Leading Scorer

Jordan Dill ’26 cemented his name into Germantown Friends School history, surpassing 2,022 career points, and becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer.

Dill broke a record that had stood for 35 years, originally set by Jonathan Haynes ’90, a Villanova star who led the Tigers to a Friends Schools League title in 1989. For 34 years, no one came close to Haynes’ record.

The historic moment came late in the first half when Dill drained a contested three-pointer (pictured below), a shot he has made innumerable times, but this basket was one that people had come to see. He finished the night with 24 points, leading the Tigers to a 71-58 victory over the Shipley Gators.

The two scorers, Dill and Haynes (pictured below), were both in the Scattergood Gym surrounded by family and friends, Dill in Tigers blue and orange, and Haynes donning his favorite Villanova swag. The pair, more than a generation apart, had more in common than an ability to get the ball in the hoop. A palpable charisma, reflective gratitude, and a genuine love for the game and GFS exudes from them both. You never would have known that they had met just hours before the game.

“Jordan is a great kid, and I’m so happy for him and his family,” said Haynes. “The gym and the colors may have changed from when I played, but the support, the sense of community– that hasn’t. It’s still GFS.”

For Head Coach Jamil Pines ’15, the moment was unforgettable. “It was even more special than I imagined. To see Jordan break Jonathan’s record and for Jonathan to be here, embracing the moment, embracing the community, it was full circle. Jordan and this team have more work to do– we’re pushing him to go for the city record next– but this is a milestone he has earned.”

Dill credited his teammates, coaches, and the GFS community for their unwavering support. “It felt unreal,” he said. “I didn’t even realize that basket put me over the record at first, but seeing my team and my little brother right there embracing me– it was incredible.”

“This is why I came to GFS, not just to play basketball but to build friendships and build community and be part of something bigger than myself,” reflected Dill after the excitement had died down.

With the record now his, Dill sits atop the scoring mountain, with his entire senior season still left to play. So as Coach Jamil said, keep watching. The story isn’t over yet.
