At a school where excellence is expected and leadership is lived out daily, four senior captains from the Germantown Friends School lacrosse program have once again raised the standard.
Sarah Goldberg, Emmie Day, Olivia Lutey, and Naomi Shaffer have spent the past four years helping build one of the most successful programs in the region. This spring, their impact was recognized not only through championships and on-field success, but through an extraordinary collection of academic and leadership honors that reflect the complete student-athlete experience.

All four captains earned Friends Schools League First Team All-League recognition while continuing to thrive in the classroom and serve their community. Sarah Goldberg and Emmie Day were each named to the USA Lacrosse All-Academic Team, one of the sport’s highest honors recognizing elite achievement in academics, athletics, leadership, character, and community service. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.7 GPA while serving as major contributors on the field and positive representatives of the game.
Olivia Lutey and Naomi Shaffer earned PASLA All-Academic honors, awarded to standout varsity contributors who maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA while demonstrating leadership within their school communities. Lutey was also named to the 2026 PASLA MVP Team, further cementing her place among the area’s top players.
Yet the most historic recognition belonged to Sarah Goldberg (above), who became the first student-athlete in Germantown Friends School history to be named PASLA Student-Athlete of the Year. The award honors a varsity letter winner who demonstrates exceptional achievement equally across academics, athletics, and community service; the highest embodiment of what it means to be a student-athlete.
These accolades grabbed the attention of PHL17, who named the four captains "Student Athlete of the Week" during the week of June 15!
For a senior class that helped lead the Tigers to four consecutive Friends Schools League Championships, these honors feel especially fitting. Their legacy extends far beyond wins and trophies. They helped shape a culture built on accountability, selflessness, and excellence in every space they entered; classroom, community, and competition alike.
These four captains leave behind more than banners. They leave behind a standard.
