Triumph on the Courts: Middle School Squash and Basketball Shine in Championship Play

The Middle School Squash program found success all over the court at the Arlen Specter Center, home to US Squash, competing in the 2025 U.S. Middle School Team Squash Championship. 

The Boys B Team are champions of Division IV! Ranked as the #2 seed, the Tigers battled through their bracket, defeating Squash Smarts (4-1), Westport Middle School (4-1), and New Canaan Country School (3-2).

Congratulations to Matthew Xu ’29, Carson McWilliams ’30, Jacob Feyissa ’29, Isaac Toesmeier ’29, and Julian Rivella ’29 on a hard-fought weekend (pictured above L to R)!

The Boys A Team competed in Division II, stacking up wins against Lower Merion School District (4-1), Greenwich Country Day School (3-2), and Rye Middle School (3-2). The latter two matches came down to the wire, tied 2-2 each time, Sebastian Blachno ’30 (pictured third from the left with teammates and coach) mounted consecutive comebacks in the final sets, battling fiercely for each point to give the Tigers the win. 

The Girls A Team faced a tough bracket in Division I, and won their first match 3-2 against Rye Country Day School and rallied in the consolation bracket to beat Princeton Day School 4-1. The Tigers finished the weekend ranked sixth in the nation! 

The Girls B Team fared well in Division II. The team stacked wins against Capital Squash (4-1), and upset the higher-seeded Shipley School (3-2). The Tigers finished ninth in their division.

On a different type of court just over a mile away, the MS Girls Basketball team competed at The Philadelphia School’s Friday Night Lights Tournament and returned home as tournament champions! The Girls had two close games against the hosting TPS, winning the first 27-29. The Tiger defeated the Waldorf School in their second game 15-4 and won the Championship game against TPS 29-25. 

The Boys Basketball 8th Grade team will compete in TPS' Boys Friday Night Lights Tournament this Friday at 5:45 p.m.
