Dear Friends,
As many of us continue to mourn the loss of our friend Tchet Dereic Dorman, I wanted to pass along information about his memorial service. All are welcome to gather next Tuesday, July 2 at Germantown Monthly Meeting for a viewing from 10:30-11:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. A repast will immediately follow the service. If you would like to contribute food or drinks for the reception, please sign up on this sheet by Friday.
For those who did not know Tchet, he formerly served as the GFS Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and remained a friend and mentor to many after he transitioned to an important role within the American Cancer Society. Tchet ignited and facilitated important conversations within our community, in large part through a Transformational Intergroup Dialogue program, implemented in meaningful ways for learners of all ages, and the creation of divisional diversity committees. Along with Behnaz Varamini, Tchet also facilitated the Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity (SEED) program, engaging participants in conversations to broaden an understanding of the structural, institutional, and systemic impact of oppression, power and privilege related to race, class, sexual orientation, gender, religion, age, ability, national origin, and language.
Tchet inspired many to open their hearts and minds, and his impact continues to be felt widely on campus. As one member of our community noted:
"I will forever be grateful for Tchet's spirit of openness and encouragement to tackle the inward journey of growth around identity and issues of race. Somehow he could invite you into the work you needed to do without judgment, but he balanced it out with an expectation of accountability. His work was totally grounded in love."
If you would like to share memories or pictures of Tchet, feel free to add them to this bulletin board.
Please continue to hold Tchet and his family in the Light.
In peace, Dana
