Michelle Palmer is the Executive Director of Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia. As a teacher and administrator at Germantown Friends School, Michelle is deeply committed to making education fair and accessible. Michelle is the co-founder of the GFS Alumni of Color program, teaches a social justice course in the Upper School, and works closely with students, faculty, and staff on strategic initiatives to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.

André Robert Lee '89 is a filmmaker, teacher, and activist. André has written, produced, and directed documentaries and films that highlight the need for equity and inclusion. André is also the namesake of the André Robert Lee Fellowship, a nearly $2 million program dedicated to providing financial support, mentorship, and leadership opportunities to high school students at GFS while building a more robust culture of affinity and inclusion throughout the school community.

Kate Garrity is the Director of the Friends Free Library, which predates the Philadelphia Public Library system, and serves both Germantown Friends School and the community of Germantown. Kate’s goal is to ensure that students, families, and community members find the library a place to access a variety of resources, including books, newspapers, magazines, and research databases.

Drive up and drop off at the Meetinghouse front porch to support the following organizations:

• The Spot Period Hub with menstrual products
• Cradles to Crayons with winter coats and sneakers for children
• Face-to-Face with snacks, toiletry kits, and new and gently used forks and towels 
• Reach Out and Read with gently used children’s books
• Open Hearts Café with coats and hoodies in adult sizes

Volunteer to collect donations on the Meetinghouse porch, make donations, and drive donations to local missions.

All are welcome to attend a moving screening of Selma. The historical drama, directed by Ava DuVernay and written by Paul Webb, is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches. No registration is required for this event.

All workshops will take place in the All School Commons unless otherwise specified.

• Pies for a Mission: Join GFS faculty member Anna Burke to make apple pies for Whosoever Gospel Mission. 
• Warm Hearts: Craft hats and scarves for local missions with GFS faculty member Carla Childs. (Participants must be 12 and over.)
• Empty Bowls (Woodshop): Join GFS faculty member Rachel Fuld to make wooden bowls for the annual Empty Bowl Dinner, which raises funds to end food insecurity. (Participants must be 12 and over.)
• Social Justice Stories: Hear inspiring stories on social justice, read by GFS Librarians.
• Sensory-Friendly Recipe: Make a treat for the Germantown Community Fridge in a sensory-friendly environment.
• Notes of Cheer: Create notes of cheer for Cradles to Crayons.

• Assembling Toiletry Kits: Join the Community Engagement Club to assemble toiletry kits to be distributed at Holsey Temple, St. Luke’s Food Pantry, and the Germantown Community Fridge. 
• Social Justice Stories: Hear inspiring stories on social justice, read by GFS Librarians.
• Art with Lili: Bring joy through an exploratory art project, led by GFS Art Teacher Lili Sharpless ’04.
• Sandwich Making: Make sandwiches for the Germantown Community Fridge alongside GFS faculty member Jared Lazorko '16.
• The Art of Animation: Join Kelly Jones, storyboard artist and designer, as she discusses the PBS animated series Lyla in the Loop and her work as an artist.
• The Pink Tax: Learn about the Pink Tax and the action steps we can take to eliminate it, led by Upper School student affinity group Sistahs.
